The Ergonomic Desk Hacker

I’m building my own DIY sit-stand desk and want to use two standard actuators to lift the top. How do I make sure both sides move at the exact same speed? I saw that Progressive Automations has various stroke lengths, but how sensitive are these to uneven weight? If my heavy PC tower is sitting on one side, will the desk tilt, or is there an easy way to keep them synchronised so my setup stays level?

For a DIY sit-stand desk using two actuators, the key is synchronisation — if one side moves faster, your desk will tilt. The actuators themselves aren’t “smart” enough to auto-balance heavy loads, so you’ll want a single control box that drives both in parallel. That way they get the same power and timing signal, and stay much more level as they extend/retract. Progressive Automations’ automation projects https://www.progressiveautomations.com/en-eu/pages/standard-linear-actuators page shows different stroke lengths and specs, but the electronics you choose matter just as much for smooth motion. Also try to distribute weight evenly on the desktop and use a rigid frame so uneven loads (like a heavy PC) don’t cause binding or strain.
